First off, I haven't been able to go MDing for months now because of two big things in my life: one I'm back in school to finish my masters degree, and two, my wife and I had a baby! So as you can imagine, the spare time to go hunting has all but disappeared. I haven't posted for months, but I've been around reading a lot of posts, and I love to see what you all are finding! Anyway, I had a chance to go out to an old area outside the city and try my luck and I found some silver! I think the silver war nickels are only 35% silver, but it's still silver!

I feel your pain, have 3 kids, 10,3 1/2, 1 1/2, & I get to detect during nap times etc when I can, great find...

very nice find and silver is silver, got to love this hobby ;)

I know what you mean about going when you can. I spent about 25 yrs. hunting and raising 4 kids. Now I'm married again and we have a grandchild of 3 1/2 living with us....The fun never ends!

Nice silver nickel. Hope you finish up school soon and get to hunt more. Cooler weather is on the way....YIPEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!

By the way, I found this cool website called www.coinflation.com, which details the precious metal values of most coins. According to that website, a silver war nickel contains $0.7196 of silver, 1439.22% higher than face value. Woo hoo!

With all your time being taken up the way it is, it's great you got out for awhile and actually found some silver. Congrats on the new baby, if they can shake a rattle, they can swing a detector. You first have to bring em up through the digging stage, that's why they make those tiny shovels and pails. Way to go and keep em coming.

Way to go,congrats all around life is good.

Yeah, even a short hunt is better than no hunt at all. I have twice left work and put in 30 minutes behind a school a block away from my job. In that time found 3 rings. WTG on that nickel! Keep it up!

Hey Congrats on finding a War nickel. Was it a S, or P on the mint?

Thanks for the web page also.

Congrats on the war nickle and on the baby!! Boy or girl? Details, Please! Good luck finding time to hunt or sleep for oh, the next 18 years or so :)-but, you'll enjoy every minute.

I get to go one night a week for 3-5 hrs with Baldingboy. I don't get to hunt any other time. When you go and you get to find something like you did it is really cool.

WTG!

Well this is what I did to get my TH time in. When the baby couldn't sleep and I also, I strapped on the baby carrier to my back, put my head lamp on, took the detector out and went night hunting. Stuck a passifer in his mouth and hunted. Before you know it an hour of hunting is passed and the baby is fast asleep. Just joking but I thought you might like the idea. lol.

Glad to hear you were able to get out and congratulations on the newborn and good luck with your Masters Studies.

What a funny idea! I can't imagine all the kneeling down and up and down and up again with a baby on my back! The baby's a girl, and almost a year old now (I think I've only hunted and posted a few times during this time), and the nickel has a great big "P" mintmark on the reverse, and I'm told that only the war nickels had the Philidelphia mintmark to distinguish them from their non-silver buddies. I'm trying to find as much time as I can to MD; I convinced my wife to let me and my TH friends go on a weekend long hunt this October. I'm going to do some uber research and find a nice ghost town where we can go. Anyone in the Denver area is welcome to join us. I'll post an invite as the time gets closer.
