When i say pounded i mean pounded, literally this place has been hunted by minelabs, dfx's cz70's you name it its been hit. Ive hunted it for over four years, have spent entire days there with nothing to show but a few pull tabs and rusty nails, the signals are few and far between. Its a fairgrounds that was opened in 1853, and is the oldest continuously used fairgrounds in the state of Illinois. Anyways this place had been relagated to "if there was nowhere else to go" on my list of sites and has produced quite a bit silver over the last 4 years but everyone and their brother hunts this place so not much out there anymore, or at least thats what i thought. I was waiting for the local schools to get out so i could hunt some of the sidewalk strips down town, (kids ask too many questions) so i headed to the fairgrounds to kill some time. Within less than a minute i got a nice 17-46 signal around 6" deep, and thought to myself clad quarter, to my ultimate surprise it was a no date Standing Liberty Quarter, my first ever, and i was stoked, about 45 min later i picked up a 1920 s merc, and them to top it off i got a faint i mean very faint and very hard to close in on signal, that went off 12-41. Usually a worn wheat, dug down and hit a drainage tile, almost filled in the hole and walked away but my probe told me it was under the tile. This was a huge piece of tile, 12" diameter at about 6 " down. I found the end of it and dug a tunnel to get to the target, and wow out pops an 1872 seated liberty dime, i could not believe it. I found an SLQ and a Seated on the same hunt at the same site. Crossed two more off my list today, These make silvers number 122, 123 and 124 for the year. The seated was encrusted with some type of lime or something and it had rust residue all over it so shes not a very sightly thing, but to me shes the prettiest coin ive found this year.
