I decided to go back to an area that I have really hit hard but this time I went closer to a gravel driveway. I had avoided getting too close before due to the difficult digging. Found some junk and then got a solid signal, dug through some gravel mixed with soil, flipped the plug over and there she was! Unfortunately it did sustain some scrapes, probably from the gravel rubbing against it as I dug. I'm still a happy man!
HH and Happy 4th!

Not only did you find seated, you found an early one. They started with the "no stars" obverse in 1837 & only made that for one year in Philadelphia and made it in New Orleans in 1838 for one year. The mint changed the design in 1838 and added stars on the obverse for the Philadelphia coins. In 1840 they added drapery to liberty's elbow. What you have is a type coin that was only made for a few years. That makes it a rare find as a type. I found an 1837 No Stars dime earlier this year on a club hunt and was doing the happy dance. It's a two year type coin. Anytime you find something like this it's a great find. Way to go, especially on your first seated. Here's the piece I found in April. finds 4-12-14 dime.jpg

I like your seated shack, very cool. I really want to find a seated, it will come one of these days.
