I had a great day exploring a new site in the woods next to an old creek close to my house. Quite unusually besides the 1 small piece of modern silver, I didn't find a single relic, only coins (not that I'm complaining, just weird.)

I also managed to tick a big item off my bucket list. A Roman coin and I dug 2, one being a nice sestertius. I'm still waiting to clean them as I ordered a set of Andres Pencils and I'm waiting till they arrive before I even touch them but I'll make sure to update you when that happens. Apart from that I also dug a Luxembourgish liard from 1759-1760, a French 10 centimes from 1872, a small piece of silver and a bunch of more modern European coins ranging from 1950-the 2000s.

nkellam22,

Very nice hunt, I always liked finding Roman coins - it wasn’t very often in my case. I think you will enjoy the Andres pencils, I have used them with some good success.

Good luck with your hunts.

Walt

Nice to have a site like that so close to your house :icon_thumright:

Great old coin shooting, congrats! :occasion14:

Looks like a good start! One is random, two hopefully is a sign of more nearby. :icon_thumright:

Those look like they will clean up nicely...did you find any bits of lead? I've heard lead is a good sign of Roman activity...great start! Living that close to that kind of history I don’t think I could sleep. :)

No lead no site.

No, not yet but I've only hit a small area of the site. It was a weird spot. Normally I dig numerous relics before a coin but today I only got coins (not that I'm complaining.)
And yes, it was hard to sleep after I got home, can't wait to get back.

I can only imagine...have you done any google earth research? Maybe some weird bumps, mounds, or lines in the ground will show up...how absolutely exciting...I look forward to seeing more of your finds...they are there...
