Out this morning for a pre-dawn patrol before low tide and was getting discouraged at how many bottle caps I pulled from the water-line to about knee deep. I was the only one swinging, which is rare at this spot – maybe the more experienced guys know that things are cleaned out by Friday? So on my way to a different spot and –Ding!– up around the high, wet sand line I got a beautiful tone. After one scoop, I saw an edge of it sticking out of the hole and thought it was a cap to a little liquor bottle (which sound great and there are tons of). Good thing I pocket all my trash because I was nicely surprised when I sifted the second scoop and saw my first gold ring with little diamonds in it! It's either 10, 14 or 18k; can't tell because the '1' is visible but the other number wore off. Weighs 4g.

The thing is, there's an inscription and it was someone's 25th anniversary ring; so I at least want to make an effort to return it. Other than post an ad in the Lost & Found on Craigslist, how would I do that?

Also found the smallest Quarter in the world – pictured next to a regular quarter. That one I had to pick out of the sand. And I found a pre-1970 NYC Subway Token. Cool!

It's going to be a busy few days and the batteries are charging.

Enjoy the weekend y'all and HH!

Congratz on a great hunt! Good luck returning the ring!

A "Found" ad on Craigslist is all I can think to do. If anybody has better ideas about finding the owner and returning the ring, please let me know. Thanks

Post it in Facebook too. Just don't give too much info away. You'll need key data to determine the owner, and eliminate the scammers.

Without a full name you are likely going to remain the owner of the ring.

I say return it to a jewelry store, and let them give you some money for your troubles!

Mike

It would be a shame to melt a nice piece like that. I applaud you SB for trying to find the person who lost it! I'm sure it means much more to them than it would to anyone else.

u will have literally dozens of scammers trying to claim it, dont give out any info, just general location. they should know color k size were lost, describe the wavy design

yep a ring like that you throw in your pocket and get to the next, its yours

Yea, I think you're all right about keeping the ring. Thanks for the advice. So far no replies to the CL ad and the odds seem less than slim. I tried but oh well. Another one for the treasure chest!

Be careful for scammers. Nice ring though. Thanks for sharing. Hhgl-Joe

+1 for the tiny quarter. So cool! Love the ring too but the tiny quarter is soooooo neat.

Yea, that tiny quarter nearly drove me crazy trying to find it. It must have fallen through the scoop seven or eight times so I finally got on my knees and sifted by hand. It's 8mm diameter.

Her heartache has long passed. Finders keepers unless there's a return address I would relish in your luck....

Congrats on the gold! It's a beauty too!
