This morning I went by the old Highschool/Jr. Hi to work along the sidewalks with my stinger coil I got for my ACE 250.? I worked the edge of a sidewalk along a grassy area of about 10'X10' and picked up a little clad to start with.? I had my GTI 2500? with me also so I took it and worked all the grassy area over very quickly, anticipating going on the the next grassy area and using the stinger again.? On the second pass, I detected a strong signal indicating a nickel at 2" deep on my LCD.? On pinpointing the machine's imaging feature registered an "A" size target at 2".? I just dug the tip of my Gator tool into the ground and gave the turf a flip and out popped a small gold colored? ring.? It appears to be a pinkie ring designed to be what is called a "Mother's" ring as it has a set for 8 birthstones, two of which are missing.? It appears to be gold as it? has signs of some wear but the surface is not discolored as it would be with a gold plated ring.? Inside the band is "OOO", the only inscrpition visible.? It came out bright and shiney with no corrosion or rust evident.? I will post a photo as soon as I go recover my camera which I loaned to my son-in-law to take pictures of my new Granddaughter!? I tried scanning it but it didn't come out well at all.? I have several more of those grassy patches to cover around the school, but got just a wee bit excited with my first ring find!? And oh yeah, my machine was set on "jewelry" discrimination mode.? ?I also recovered a zipper pull tab, $0.70 in clad, two big washers and some kind of a screw on aluminum knob to something.? Digging the trash paid off today!? JIM

Re: First Ring!

All right Jim! Now you can redo the stones and present it to your wife as a grandmothers ring. 8)

Re: First Ring!

Congratulations Jimmileo, that is fantasitic. Glad to see you are using both machines. Not sure if I'm ready for that trick yet but still great. How come you had the jewelry mode in disc ?Great finds though and sounds like a great spot. HH

Floater, I think he meant that it was set on Jewelry Mode. He showed me some of the settings on his machines a couple weeks ago. Ya better watch out, I think he's getting the knack of swingin' 2 machines at same time.LOL He will leave no pulltab unturned. ;D

Re: First Ring!

GRATS on the ring Jim,Sounds like a nice one, hope you can get your pic up soon.HH

Re: First Ring!

On my machine the jewelry mode is a discriminating mode as it discriminates foil and bottle caps. There is a "zero" mode which discriminates nothing. Other modes are, coin, artifact (discrminates only foil) all metal mode that does not require movement and a custom mode that you can custom design for any way you want it. All the modes except custom have factory pre-set sensitivity levels, auto ground balance, etc., but you can change one or all of the settings if you please. It also has settings for salt sand and high mineral content soils or black sand you can turn on or off if needed. You can also change frequencies up to 8 times if you are getting interference from another machine or machines or whatever reason you might want to do that. Sometimes I will find a frequency a little staticky and switching will clear up the signal. And perhaps best of all you can turn off that little womans voice that calls out your readings if you want to! This machine does more than I am capable of comprehending right now but I am slowly learning! Swinging two machines at once? You mean everone doesn't do that? JIM

Re: First Ring!

Alright!! Congrats on the ring Jim WTG!!! HH

Re: First Ring! Not so fast!

On examining this ring by use of a magnifying glass I think is is silver with gold plating. On one side there is some wear and silver is showing through. It doesn't react to a magnet so it must be silver as opposed to stainless steel. But it is a ring and my first. Rats! I'm going back to the site today and see if I can come up with something better! Badger, I am thinking aabout selling my detector because it didn't tell me this was a plated ring. Darn thing is no good! JIM

Re: First Ring!

Congrats Jim!!!

I read almost of your posts. Great achievements.

Since I am new to Garrett GTI 2500 with EagleEye Pinpointing, what settings do you prefer for golden coins??? What about golden jewelry???

Many thanks!

Re: First Ring!

Jimbo--
? ?Happy June Birthday!! Your first ring will always have a special place in your heart, sorta like your first love!!I still have and remember, when and where I found mine. And its a piece of junk, but not to me.. Maybe I'm just a weirdo, but when I pick it up its takes me right back to the time........ ?Anyway, a rings a ring. If a junk ring falls off a finger then a platinum 1 carat diamond ring can fall off too.Just a matter of finding the right finger!! LOL- Your next one might be your retirement bonus ,so keep swingin!!
? Also, remember that the plated ring, being what they call vermiel (gold plate over sterling) looked like silver to your machine. A 14kt will respond differently.Try a air test with both and you'll see what I mean.... Good Luck---resurector

Re: First Ring! Pictures

Here's a picture of the ring although a little blurry and a picture of a few other undocumented finds from the same day.
a "be 21 to buy beer tag", a couple of vaccination tags, a tattoo tag for a dog, some kind of boy scout or girlscout emblem (brass) , an old nail, and a "what is it". JIM
