It is not silver, but it is a nice pocketwatch fob or keychan from the 40's.

"Silver jubilee" is a term--most likely meaning 25th anniversary. "Golden Jubilee" is a similar term, meaning 50th. These are used more frequently across the pond to designate the number of years a monarch has reigned.

So this was a likely a 25 years' celebration in D.C. for the Lions' Club.

UPDATE: It is a 30th anniversary convention. The Lions' Club was founded in 1917. :)

Actually, I did a little research and found some info on the relic I found ( researching was fun)

It was actually a "medal" given to those that attended this convention. It wasn't a 25th jubilee for the Lions, it was a 25th jubilee for the Maryland-Deleware group (MD -22) or associaton of the Lions. It was their 25th jubilee. It had a ribbon attached and then a clasp and pin at the top of the ribbon to pin it on your lapel. I don't have the link right now but I will post it later with a picture of it when it was new.

The picture shows a golden brown color to the medal so we were thinking it might be brass. Under the dirt it is black. It sure "rings" like silver and the information we found said "silver favors" were given out at the convention though we are not sure if this was the "favor".

It's VDI was on the silver end but of course we know that can vary.

Any suggestions for cleaning????

Research-wise, you're right on the ball!

If you think it might be plated, perhaps aluminum jelly will help. If you're certain it's brass, a toothbrush should work well. :)

Congratulations!

Looks brass to me, Silver would be silver or black in color. Nice find though. I wish all finds were dated. ;D
