Several months ago I posted about a site that I had reason to believe was a winter camp for the 45th Virginia Infantry. The area to search encompassed about 170 acers. Until today I had not had much luck.
I was working an area adjacent to high ground when I recovered by first musket ball or grape shot. Approximately thirty feet from this fine my X-Terra-70 gave a very sharp signal 42 and 10+" deep. I recovered what appears to be a buckle.
The buckle appears to be made of brass and measures 2 3/4" by 1 5/8". No markings were found on the front or rear of the buckle. Any help identifying it would be appreciated.
I moved about five feet and got another sharp signal 36 at 9". I recovered a 1848
one cent piece in execlent condition.
I may have found that camp site. We will see. Thanks HH TomB
