Hi, I'm logan :)
I've had a bounty hunter ex metal detector for a long time and now at the age of 24 i have finally realized you can't just take the thing anywhere and find relics lol I've recently been able to pinpoint a good civil war site in my area through research (a good start!)

the first day's finds

I believe the first is a .54 caliber 3 ring (not sure on the lingo lol) and I think the second one is a .32 caliber remington.
I'm new to this and am not quite sure

second day back

I think this is a williams type III cleaner?

those are all the bullets I've found so far. I've been using American Civil War Bullet and Relic Collecting Association to attempt to ID them, let me know how I did :)

today I went back and found no bullets, there are so many square nails at the site it's hard to pinpoint things with my cheapo bounty hunter.

ok so we know the bullets are bullets, help on exact ID would be appreciated, however today's find leaves me bewildered.

I think it's brass, you can see the yellow. I'm not too good at this stuff yet but am trying.
any how :) what is it treasurenet?

Welcome to the addiction and t-net. Your off to a great start. Your bullet id seems spot on to me. Not sure about the brass object. Maybe some type of broach, not sure.

please right click on the pics and click view image for actual dimensions :) the forum/browser is misconstruing them
the brass?thing looks kind of circular but is actually more oval shaped

:) awesome, i guess the website im using for bullets is pointing me in the right direction. I was hoping it was military related but I can't be sure. the location is right.

I didn't even know they made small caliber bullets for pistols i thought it was all round balls for pistols :)
my lack of knowledge made the find that much more exciting

Welcome to the party. You are doing fantastic! I don't have access to any civil war era sites in my area. I would love to find just one bullet or hold one in my hand. You have an amazing place to play. Congrats! Keep it up and post away.

:) thanks for the kind words kingskid, holding it in my hand was an amazing feeling for sure.
the 6th regiment of the WV infantry had their O company in my area to help protect the railways from confederate attacks.
they failed however and the bridge they were protecting was destroyed, it was rebuilt in 4 days time and the train kept rolling.
the east has a bloody past, it is very humbling to be pulling these things out of the ground.

Very good start for sure. Looks like that spot could produce for years. I was about 35 years old when I found my first CW bullet. I just turned 67 and still researching and hunting anything Civil War. There's plenty out there to save. Welcome to TN and welcome fellow relic hunter. Thanks for sharing.

I think the first bullet may be a Sharps carbine. I think the 2nd is MAYBE a Confederate Tranter revolver bullet.

minnesota, good eye ;) i think we have a bingo!
so these are embellishments for leather work? based on it's close proximity to the bullets do you think it would be safe to assume this was civil war era? this has me excited and thinking its for maybe a saddle or something of that nature or a belt? I've been searching alot and can't find anything to confirm or deny that it is military related either, here's hoping :) it's a nice looking piece anyhow and I enjoyed finding it for sure. actually went back today and found yet another bullet, I'm going to keep it covert for now on i guess! I'm going to start assembling my detector in the field after i carry it inside my backpack, along with a pack shovel.

thanks to everyone for the warm welcome, If i get any other strange items that stump me I'll know where to come :)
to the hunt! :occasion14:

Sorry, I have no clue on age. Sounds like you have a promising spot to continue to MD!

One of the best tools you can buy is digital calipers. You can get a decent one for around $20.00 from almost any auto parts store. They are invaluable when it comes to IDing bullets as well as buttons. You have some nice bullets there and I know you will find many more. If you post a picture of the base it will also help with an accurate ID.
