If it is lead it doesn't look like it has been in the ground long otherwise it would be having dark gray /white in patina. Looks like an old bottle cork to me. They can get pretty hard being in the ground and come out resembling a piece of chalk. But if it is metallic-lead then obviously not a cork.

It is obvious that one end is broken off. It looks cast, reminds me of the terminal end of a sparkplug but too large but still might be electrical related.
