first pocket watch found

Hunted the family land at the old house and found this watch, a dropped bullet, 1937 wheat and a big, snap button. Really excited about the new place to hunt. We just moved and am finally close enough to go out there

Interesting, nice finds. Haven't found a pocket watch yet, but my husband did find an Armitron watch buried in over a foot of sand... it was running and is still ticking away!

How old is the house? Make sure you hunt from the street to the front door, around the back door, where the privy was located and under where the clothesline would be. Any old trees on the property? Hunt around them, too. You sound like an experienced hunter, so forgive me if I'm out of line with my suggestions.

My house is from 1983...have only found beer cans (buried), pull tabs and roofing nails galore in my yard. Oh, I did find spent bullet casings...all .22's and all new...

Nice pocket watch find. I've found two, one was just the case (Formerly Gold Plated circa 1905), the other was the front cover, solid coin silver (circa 1875). I'd like to see some info after you've researched it. I hope it's old. If not, that's kewl too. Pocket watches are fun to find.

There isn't a case for the watch but it looks like it stopped working at 5:47...can't see any markings.

One of the houses is late 1800s and the other is from the 40s. No one has lived in the newer house in 25 years. The land is REALLY overgrown, I am in SC. I saw the close line and headed there, but the grass was three feet tall, I did manage some modern pennies from there. I could hardly swing my coil and could hardly walk through the majority of the 5 acres. I am so excited about this place!

I'd certainly be looking for the case and cover. I'm optimistic that I may someday, the case for my Silver pocket watch cover.

In case you didn't know. Many Pocket watch cases were produced by a different company than the actual watch. I haven't found an intact pocket watch, nor just the inside of one.

Good find! Found a newer pocket watch a few weeks ago.

They are fun to find, if someone can loose something that big...gives us hope of finding stuff like half dollars.

I have found a few ( 3 this year) but never quite complete, and not a silver or gold cased one. That's the hope someday finding a solid gold one.

I found one on the edge of a graveyard once. I was able to look it up on google. Can you see any marks to help you identify it?

Thanks for the replies everyone. I didn't know that the case and the watch were often made by different companies. It is one of my cooler finds, especially since it probable belonged to one of my wife's relatives
