Well I've been driving past this stone wall in the woods and visible depression for the last couple of years. It is about 1/2 mile from my house, but well posted with the old No Trespassing signs. Last week the area was cleared of trees and brush and the homeowner who had recently built a mansion higher into the property was obviously getting ready to drop another 6 figures on landscaping and incorporating the 1800's stone wall. I found out the owner has a daughter in my daughters 3rd grade class and I found him at the pool and got permission to hit the land, but only had 24 hours before they mulch the area. Sleepless night envisioning amazing finds in a cleared old 1800's homesite.

Well didn't pan out quite like I was hoping. I think the excavators filled some areas a little deep for my detector or maybe it was hit by a nighthawk in the past.

I cleaned and Renn waxed the 1930/40's Barclays car and packed it up in a nice presentation for my daughter to give to her classmate.

And this is the mystery item.

Here's to hoping my next permission comes sooner than 3 years and is more productive.

Good luck out there!

Congrats on the permission sounds like it was a long time coming at least there were a few pretty cool finds that toy pistol is really cool hope your next one doesn't take long

Your story brings out a lot of what makes this hobby so great -- the searching for potential, the anticipation of what-might-be, the fun of the explore, and the looking forward to what comes next time! Congrats on living the dream and for an interesting collection of finds -- you had a great day! :icon_thumright:

I think you did well. You unearthed some cool items I've never seen. I went 0-2 door knocking yesterday. The excitement of hunting a new permission for the first time would keep me awake too.

You always prefer to hunt public land so you don't have to ask for permission. I'm glad to see you working on your permission tactics.

Permission property is the way to go brother. If you start doing it regularly it becomes much easier.

I got a permission about a month ago and the guy said yea,I own the house next door also, have at it. My first signal was a 1906 barber dime. Gave it to the owner.
Only one I found in several trips but well worth it.
