First old Token

I finally caught the family who lives behind me mowing their lawn for the first (and probably last) time this summer. I asked and they said sure. Yesterday, I got some wheats (including a 1909) and a 1947 D Roosie. Today, the signals were sparser and the digging harder. I got this sweet signal underneath a huge root. About five minutes later, I was able to get underneath it. When I broke open the clod, I thought to myself that was one deep clad quarter, but on closer inspection, I saw a big 5 cent sign! I had my first old token. I then got two more wheats.

It don't get much better than that. Saloon tokens are highly collectable. I have a book on saloon tokens from all 50 states. by Fred Holabyrd I will see if yours is in it. Darn good find.

I know where bodies are buried, due in the most part because of the obsession of token collecting. Been hunting them for years, and I don't have a single one that says "Saloon". Bar, yes. Tavern, yes. Saloon, no. And your first ever token says, "Saloon". I salute you. Do not visit Denver this summer. Supposed to snow a lot. Lot of snow here in the summer. We call it "Summer Snow". Sheesh, "Saloon"
