So I've been metal detecting for about 10 years. I've found plenty of jewelry, but only one wheat cent and no silver coins. The way I've always rationalized it to myself is that in in California we don't have dozens of colonial coppers and $5 gold pieces per square foot like the East Coast guys.

Anyhow, found this yesterday at a sidewalk tear-out:

Condition is poor, but the date is visible, and it's 117 years old!

My wife is already wearing the silver ring I found nearby:

Being only a few hours south of you I feel your pain. Congrats on your V nickel!

Congratualtions on the old coin and nice ring! :occasion14:

The V is nice, but that ring is beautiful! Congrats on the great finds! :occasion14:

Congrats on the the V. The old coins are neat to find here in Pa. I would like to find more jewelry or more than i have found... Its a trade off i guess.

Nice finds!

I would love to find some nice jewelry like that! Someone should be able to identify the stone....

yes and the east coast does not include Atlanta, GA - barely get any silver coins here. Great finds and the ring. My wife tolerates my metal detecting hobby because I found some nice rings that she keeps. She is still looking for some with some nice diamonds, but that is still on my bucket list. No ocean beaches so have to rely on volley ball courts. But I do know a coupled of guys who do pretty good up at the lake. Trouble is they get there before me in the morning. Great guys, they showed me where the best places are on the lake out about waist deep. Very little on the shore.

Oh I forgot the Spanish came up here from FL along the Chattahoochee river in the late 1700's but they must have just used their credit cards because the silver reales are rarely if ever found.

I admire the perseverance- Congrats on your first oldie after that amount of time! Hope there are many more in store!

Nice finds, that's a great ring.

Now, about those dozens of $5 gold pieces per square foot here on the East Coast, where exactly might I find those?

:)

Lol! I was thinking the same thing.

Congrats on the sweet V!

That ring is gorgeous. My oldest dug coin is a 1917 wheat, and I think I'd still be more excited about the ring. It's the kind of thing my wife would wear, too.

Beautiful coin and ring. Congrats

Just like Jeff said I ADMIRE your Perseverance it’s amazing to me,and humbles me, because on my hunt today I didn’t get a silver and was very disappointed. Thank you and God Bless [emoji1317]
