Greetings all - I'm a long-time coin collector, have been following the forum for a few months, and CRHing for one month. I follow all the CRH rules, especially the 2nd - there is no Coin Roll Hunting. I have one account at a large bank, use 5 pickup branches and two dumps. I've done 5.6 boxes of halves, 12.2 boxes of dimes, 4.5 boxes of nickels, and 8.8 boxes of cents. My first coin was a nice bright 1970 D. Next week was a nice IH. Then a few boxes of nickels revealed a Racketeer nickel - 1883 no cent. Found a 1991 Rushmore proof, Ben with a pendant hole, and then Senor Balboa showed up. I think I saw his eye move - like a Scooby Doo painting. Also got two war nickels, then a Merc. Below is a photo of the good finds. My goals are for a barber dime, buffalo nickel, and 90% JFK. Here are my stats for one month.

Glad to have ya on here, you're doing really well for a month in! having a 1970D be your first coin must be a good omen, I've only found one of those in my 2 years of CRH in which I've been through hundreds and hundreds of boxes. also your IH and V nickel, those are great finds, I still have not found either yet! looks like the dimes are underproducing per box, it looks like the halves are the way to go in your area

Is the Balboa clad or silver? Also, your nickel is not a Rackateer. The Rackateers are the gold plated "no cents" nickels.

Ah yes - you're right. Racketeers are only the gold-plated ones. Still - was surpised to find the 1883 no cent. Balboa is from the 80s - no silver. Silver Balboas are 1964 and before, right?

Thanks Sag. Are you the one who looks under the Coinstar machines a lot? I found 2 1964 dimes in a reject tray the other day. Also made a hook tool from a coat hangar and got about 100 foreign coins from under 4 different machines. My step-dad used to work for Coinstar in the late 1990s and I'd go along with him to check and clean the machines. We found 25 Ikes in the internal reject container once. Also found lots of jewelry. They may have reprogrammed the machines since then. Have you ever been there when a tech is cleaning it? Ever ask him for coins in the internal reject tube?

good looking coins and your numbers are pretty spot on to other peoples averages, rock on!

I am the coinstar guy. Never seen the tech guy. Can you PM me the list of foreign you found? Balboas are 90% for 1964 and before and 40% for the 1965-1970. There are silver proofs later.

I'll see what I can find. Some have been mixed in with previous finds. Last night a new machine had $6.74 and one 1944 US cent under it. Most I've found. Lots of quarters.

Was the 1944 US cent copper?

Ha, my mistake. Meant to type 1942. Though, I was thinking about the 1944 on TN when I first looked at the date. Thanks!
