Garrett AT Max
Decided to swing on a pasture that I do a lot of target shooting in, it’s usually a waste of time detecting due to the amount of modern bullets and empty shells. But today I hit a high tone that sounded pretty good… solid 80 on my AT Max. Out popped what looks like a post-1902 service button in rough shape but I can see the eagle!!! First photos are after dry brushing with a toothbrush, last image is after applying olive oil and polishing.

Do you find that olive oil helps protect the patina? Never tried it. Cool find!

This is actually the first item I tried it on. I read somewhere that it helps to loosen residual dirt without being too abrasive. On this button I decided to give it a try to help bring out the image on the face of the button, not so much for preservation but to help bring out any finer detail. I think it helped some, my only fear is that the oil will just make dust stick to it while on display
