Hi Guys,

Just got a Fisher F2 on Friday, and found this yesterday in my backyard. I live in the Piedmont of NC (just southwest of Raleigh) so I'm guessing this is some kind of farm equipment, but the thought crossed my mind that it could be something else (almost reminded me of a mini grenade?).

First, I found this round (iron?) ball type item with two holes at the top for some kind of attachment (quarter for reference size). Fits in the palm of your hand very easily.

Next, I found some other pieces about 6 feet away:

Then I found a small spinning piece nearby:

Then I found what looks to be the top of the first piece (fits pretty nicely onto it):

Here's another view of the top piece:

All pieces seem to fit together:

Finally, I found this tag, which says "Apollo" and also had "Hybri[] Tea[]" and "reproduction of" and "without license is prohibited":
Tag-Apollo.jpg

The tag was not next to any of the other items (directly) but ALL items were found within about 15 feet of each other.

Other notes:
1. The round ball thing had lots of dirt inside (didn't really seem like gunpowder but I guess it could have been?).
2. I am not certain the tag is from the same era as the other items - it may not be related, or it might be.
3. The spinning piece looks as though it could have fit on top of the ball housing somehow?

Thanks for helping!
- Kevin

I am thinking your round ball thingy is a fence post cap.

Hi Everyone,

Just want to say thanks to everyone who helped in the identification of these items. You guys / gals are amazing.

To rehash, the round ball looks to be the iron end of a Horse hames, and the spinning item is a thermostat. The tag describes some roses that were likely planted in the area some time ago.

I believe the other parts probably went to the hames or harness as well.

Not sure on the dates of these, but they are probably at least from the 1950's from the limited research I've done.

Thanks again! I'll mark this as 'SOLVED'.
