Got out for about an hour on Jan 6th just before dark. It was cold again and frozen again ... this weather pattern is getting old quick! I went to an old farmstead site that I found last year but haven't been to this year since the field was harvested and deer season ended. I hadn't walked 10 steps toward the site when I got my first good signal. I hammered my digger into the frozen ground until I worked a chunk out and rechecked the hole. Still had a good signal and dug just a bit more and out pops my first LC of the year. I was amazed to say the least. This site has given up wheats, buffalo nickels, and a couple of IHs but no real oldies. The rest of the hunt netted a rough wheat cent, a key hole piece, and a couple of trash targets that I dug anyway and had to work way too hard for. Thanks for looking and good luck on your next outing!

Congratulations Jim, heck of a way to start the year.... How did she clean up?

Great finds!!!

A nice reward for your dedication to the hunt regardless of the weather!

When no one was looking, did you peek through the keyhole? What did you see? ;D

Nice first LC ,I hammered my digger into the ground :o :laughing7: ::))SJ forests are still diggible : :icon_scratch:.Is diggible a word ???Anyway Jim bestillhuntin'' :headbang:

nice start to 2010  I popped out an 1827 LC on the first ;D

Awesome large cent!!! I'm still looking for my first.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I cleaned the LC with soap, water, and a soft brush before the above photo was taken. I don't think it will clean up much more (maybe a hot peroxide bath might help a little) but I think the old coin is about as good as its gonna get. Part of the date is visible but not complete ... it looks like 18?7 to me but I can't really tell.

LOL@KD! :D

Isn't this weather crazy! :-X Terrific LC, Jim! I'm gonna find me one of those, one day. :P :D

Keep warm! Nana

Very awsome. Cabin fever is getting to me. Suppose to have a heat wave Monday. Up in the 30's. I'm thinking on getting out, even if it's just walking around the woods out here. I might have to use the splitting maul tho.. :laughing9:
