My wife and I did some birthday hunting (my birthday :-) on Sept 16th. Slow posting lately. We hit a popular place for gold panning and such. Usually lots of pull tabs and bottle caps here. We hit it for 10 minutes. My first hit was what appears to be a large Cent of some kind at +75 VDI 4 inches. This place would typically be under water with lots of rocks pounding against it., So being in rough shape would be expected. I have not been able to pull any identifying details from it even after cleaning. I weighed it at 10.71 grams, a U.S. Large Cent when minted is 10.89 grams. Size, slightly larger than a quarter, Much smaller then a half.
Hunting buddy Rob seem to think it was a Mexican large cent, perhaps the 191? type. Anyone that wants to ring in on it, do so, but I'm certainly calling it my first large cent either way. Kewl find.

Nice find there Mari, surely someone will ID it for you =)

Tough to tell but I'm guessing a king george

Thank you for sharing your hunt and those pictures with us

Your last pic shows what looks like an eagle. Which matches the Mexican large cent. But. The front doesn't match up?

Hello,
I hope someone can I.D. that old bronze coin for you. It almost looks like an ancient old world coin. Baffling to say the least.
Good Luck,
Phil

Mexico is a good guess, but if it is, would guess local/revolutionary coinage, even though I can find none that match. I can see where the ancient guesses come from. Tough one. Great find whatever it is.
