I am psyched. I know its not much, but its my first jewelry and gold. I have been trying to get a pic of this tonight, however the lighting is making it impossible ATM. So will try to take a pic tomorrow.

Its just a small earring, with perhaps a real amythest in the center. I have been reading your posts about jewelry and waiting till you are at a good place to inspect incase a stone falls out etc.

I had my wife with me and this type of earring clips. While playing with the clip the round gold end it clips into fell off. She was walking toward me in a big tall grass field, so looking for that small part was an impossibility, all the same we have half. LESSON learned....should have listened to all of your wisdom.

This find was at a swimming hole that operating from 1975-2002. A very popular one. The owners detected there along with their children for years. Owner said it was probably completely hunted out, but since its long since closed go for it.

I have only checked 3 paths as far as I can swing my detector and about 30' long. Along with the earring I found:

20 quarters
22 dimes
3 nickels
40 pennies

I barely checked a small amount of sand area so far. It appears that it had perhaps been hit a good deal. I did however find atleast 25 bullets so far. Perhaps its a range now LoL.

The paths were not in the sand, they were in the grass on a hill where the parents often set to watch their children. Good news I dug 35+ pull tab, cap signals there. Many were older tabs and caps, so I don't think any of them decided to check out the grassy areas for jewelry.

Also 1/2 of the pond still has water. The water used to be 10' deep there, but looks like about only 2-3 feet now covering an area 70' x 50'.

ONE BIG question for you guys please. My BH 505 cannot be submerged in water, however according to BH the coil and arm can, just not the electronics. Here is my problem. Right above the coil, where you have the nut that attaches the coil, the wire was struck and the coating has been pulled back exposing 2 inches of the wire.

I covered with elec. tape but I am wondering if it would be a good idea to submerge it and check the water?

The wires inside do not have any actual wire exposed, best I can tell, however with the overall coating having that 2 inches missing is it possible for water to drip back later on and get to my detectors connector end?

Thanks in advance for advice,

Now I just need SILVER...SILVER...lol. Hopefully will get first silver soon. Slowly getting more and more permissions to detect yards, most ask to do when they are there (understandable), most don't get home till dark 'cept on weekends. Will just have to keep choosing what I think is best chances based on older maps and research on year of home build. Silvers gotta be just there waiting for me.

Thanks for reading this all. Pic will be coming tomorrow of the first gold jewelry.

Congrats on the jewelry...it's always a rush when you find that stuff!

If the wires are open then water can get inside and travel down to the coil which would be bad. If you can't make the broken area waterproof you definitely don't want to get that area wet.

HH!

Thank you TBGO. I kinda figured that would happen, but though I would ask for an experienced answer. I do have a 4" coil, will take a bit longer, but I feel that perhaps it might be worth it. The parts of the pond left underwater were right up under the slide and the diving board...oh and where peps swung out on a tire rope. Looks like it a possible strong area for peps to have things fly off them. And back then the water was 10 foot + deep and I know the owners do not have a detector that can be submerged.

Sound like a great chance for first ring?

Thank you again TBGO,

Post,

congrat on "First jewelry / gold jewelry"

It's just a start ;D

Don't mess with the water until you repair
that wire; once that is done you should be
all set to dip your coil in the water.

Best.

have a good un.............

Nice- you know just because it was hunted for years doesn't mean squat.. a lot of people are too lazy to dig all the pull tab signals, want instant gratification with finding money which means there could be several more jewelery pieces there.. finding the pull tabs is a good sign!

Congrats on your first gold, wtg!
Stay positive and it will all happen,
that next signal will be the big one
you have been waiting for... gotta believe!
Keep the good finds coming.

Golden smiles!

There is a product out called liquid electrical tape. Several coatings of this, then a good wrapp of regular elec tape should help in waterproofing your cable.

We use it to weatherproof and seal out the salt air in boat electronics, and electrical hook ups.
