Hi all, Finally can start posting again,i have a new camera and been hunting a bit .so thought i mit my first finds for the year.I went to place called the Thistle Street Hill, During the first 15 years of the gold rush this area was a place of activity, Local settlement of trade, located on the only road to the sea.All goods in the early days where brought in by ship. The demand for goods was great so many fortunes where made by selling the wanted goods to highest bider. These trader where the biggest winners in the gold rush,You can,t eat gold. ;D ;D ;D.Many sailors from in comming ships would jump ship. They figured that they wanted their share of the gold too.Bets bad weather and poor pay and food on the ships was real bad.Weavel infested corn-bread, mouldy barrel ham,.

I went to the top of the ridge ,theres a large piece of flat ground several hundred feet long and about 40 feet wide. The miner always camped on high ground as the creek below often flooded due to heavy rain and the fact there was so much mud and clay created by methods of gold mining.

I found quite a few interesting relics and bottles, clay pipes and a Button. The button is a Colony of Victoria Navial Artillery Button. The colony was only allowed to form armed forces until after 1863 as the british controled and governed till this time. British regiments and ships where allowed.the button is a first issue and dates from 1863

Hey Tinpan, I was wondering if you got lost in a gold mine and hit the big one, LOL. Nice post and finds, I think I would super glue those clay pipes back together, very nice! I hope to find a clay pipe someday, I only find pieces. HH, Mike

Very cool pipes and button. What kind of Metal Detector you use?

The ship pipe bowl is collectable. :)
