The AT Pro went nuts over this target it indicated it was 6" down. I was on a baseball field that is fenced in. I dug down and found this NJ Motorcycle License Plate. It cleaned up nicely. Now do I return it to DMV or keep it as my keepsake.
Sure beats all the scrap iron and pull tabs I've been finding.

I would suggest you go buy yourself a Harley to put it on. :angel9:

I dig everything. I'm new at detecting. As soon as I learn the variations in the sounds. I will stop digging iron.

Why do you dig iron?

If you look for any type of relic, you will miss it if you don't dig it. I dig everything, even if I think its a can. That's how I found my cartridge plate.

The 2 plates I found rang around 65-70, not close to iron

I've got a $10 bill with your name on it if you want to 'recycle' it onto my workshop wall display! :laughing7:

no point in returning to the dmv. I'm sure it's expired anyway. they would probably look at you like you're crazy.

That plate is only about 2 yrs. old at the max.

I know this because I bought a Harley in 2010 and it had the black boxes on the right side of the plate for inspection & registration stickers.
In 2012 I traded in my 2010 for a 2012 and the plate is the new style like yours with no black boxes on the right side for the stickers.

Seems odd someone would bury a newer plate in a baseball field.
It may be from a stolen motorcycle.
You don't want to be in possession of a plate off a stolen vehicle.

it might have been brought in will fill dirt..who knows....But i do know the plates are made of Galv. Steel...I would throw it away..its not old...unless you have some attachement too it...but if not....trash it

Spoke to a police officer, who saw my post and ran the plate out of curiosity. The plate is no longer in the system, was not tagged as stolen or is illegal, the only thing they asked is that I do not put it on a motorcycle and use it.
It's hanging on the wall. Going back to where I found it, the grass was new growth, their was fill dirt everywhere. I am thinking when they repaired the field earlier in the year after a few rain storms. I am sure it is part of the fill dirt that was brought in.

Glad to hear its not stolen.

Enjoy your new found treasure and happy hunting.

When I first got my AT Pro I started using it in Standard Coin mode, just to get a feel for it.
As time progressed, I periodically found targets with Standard Coin mode and would then use Pro Coin mode to compare signals.
Soon I was using Pro Coin mode all the time, and it was in Pro Coin mode that I found all my better coins.
Recently I started using it in Pro Zero (all-metal) mode.

It really just depends on your level of adaptation to its capability. Use it how you see fit; you can always come back to a site in a different mode. One thing I would recommend is getting a Garrett Pro Pointer, if you don't already have one. They are invaluable tools.

Just picked up the pro pointer and I like it a lot. I have a long leash attached to it so I don't lose it. I had a cheap military folding shovel and it kept getting loose and it's tough to dig with. I've decided to get the expensive Predator Raven Model 25. I spent a lot of money on everything else to start so I might as well have a good shovel. I did buy a sand scoop but as I look at it I'm thinking I got what I paid for $32. And that was the cheapest piece of equipment I have. I'm saving for a stainless steel one so I can beach hunt next year.
