First I thought coin, then button, now I don't know

Dug this in the dump stuff. It was really caked up so I thought coin but after seeing the back and what I thought was a bent over shank, I thought button... but now I'm not so sure if that is a shank bent over or a "nipple fittng"(for lack of better term) of some kind.

Sorry no scale item in the photo, but it is bigger than a quater and smaller than a half dollar and very thin copper (I think). Note the puch marks on the front which do not go all the way through and the 2 small holes on either side that do... weird one... any ideas?

Re: First I thought coin, then button, now I don't know

Could it be Braile? Maybe helping a blind person to know which article of clothes it came off. If it's a button that is.

I don't know. Everything with bumps in a pattern looks like Braile to me. ;D

might have been a fancy button at one time, with out all the fancyness and garnets that was in those dimples.

It is braile and says TGIF...it goes on a womens slipper (blonde, maybe)

translated, it says 'Toes Go In First'

from the loop on the back, I would say button, and something was probably inlaid in the indents at one time for decoration, or possibly the two holes that go all the way through were to attach a second part of the button.
kinda cool.

Agree!

Victorian era fancy button back. Might have looked something like this:

Indents to accommodate glass stones. Holes to attach the fringe thingy...
