Well, yesterday me and my buddy juggernaut555 made our first hunt away from the homestead. We went to a nearby public park that was close to a well known Civil War location in the area. It was very near to the Red River, so I did some research and found where the river use to run and searched areas along where the bank would have been and upwards from there. We didn't find much of value, our great Louisiana state bird had all but sucked us dry and forced us out of some promising location. Next time we will return with DEET! All things totaled he found a 1989 penny and a handful of fishing weights. I found 2 unidentifiable pieces of metal. One of them looks curved, I keep telling myself maybe it's an old shell fragment, doubtful, but hey...never hurts to dream right? I was using a borrowed Garret ACE 250. I will be doing some research today on using it better because I kept having various problems using it, though they were certainly due to operator failure. All in all though it was a great first experience and look forward to all the more that's coming. :icon_thumright:

The beginning of a loongg sickness, one of us, one of us!

There is NO cure for the MDing disease!

Best of luck to you and welcome to TNet.

Congrats on your first hunt. Whenever I am trying to learn a new detector I put a selection of different coins on the ground along with pull tabs and bottle caps. I swing over each so I can hear the sound the detector makes as well as what the screen shows. I also raise the coil up as I am swinging to get an idea of how deep the target will register with that particular detector.

I had read about that at a couple places earlier this morning. Hopefully if things slow down a bit on the back half of this shift I'll get a chance to try that. We plan on making another quick hunt at a local park in the AM.

My advice, for what it is worth. Dig every single for a while and you will learn what your detector is telling you. Your tale gate will soon be covered and you will love every hole. HH RN

From one Medic to another, welcome to TNET and to this wonderful hobby. It is going to absolutely blow your mind to see what is buried in the ground, often just inches under our feet as we walk over it every day. It's such an addiction!

looks like you are well on your way.for future reference, you may start to experience withdraws.HH-gl

man I wish I had a uniform to detect in!! no one would say a thing!

I haven't actually tried detecting in uniform, but in light of how much it helps when getting pulled over...hmmmmm8-)
but of course I plan on obeying all laws and will hopefully not have any run ins with our LEO brothers.

Welcome to the party. Good thing your a medic, It will help when you cut your finger digging. I, on the other hand, just stick my finger in the mud......happy hunting.
