Got back out today to the foundation sight were I found the other artillery button yesterday. Right off the bat I hit another artillery button, I know the button is an { Alberts AY52B } but what I was wondering is when the button was made? Is it 1808 - 1821? or 1820's - 1830's ? Thanks for looking HH

Re: First hunt with the T2, Early 1800's Artillery Button

Lovely early artillery button! 8)

Although Alpheus Albert assigned an 1808-1821 date on the style of artillery button, I cannot recall ever seeing them recovered in context with War of 1812 sites. The impression I've had, was they were post war issue, and in use from the late teens up through the 1830's. I would enjoy hearing additional input from experienced diggers and collectors, in regards to this time frame topic.

Awesome find!! I am actually getting a T2 here soon. How well do you like it?

I love those AY 52B's!! I have found 3 of them at a pair of old housesites that were about 100 yards apart. These housesites appear to have been occupied from about the 1820s to maybe 1910. I was just telling a buddy that I felt these were from surplus uniforms that were obsolete after 1821 and sold to militia units. Of course this is just speculation on my part.

Nice finds :icon_thumleft:

Learn that T2 is is the best cellar hole machine out there...
