Well, my Ace 250 finally came in the mail and so I tried it out, ended up getting my first coin ever MDing, a 1995-D Quarter. Only tested it so far in my back yard which is pretty modern (nothing older than 15 years), hope to find some older places to detect. Certainly an upgrade from my grandpa's old Bounty Hunter!

Need to practice and get better with pinpointing though, ended up having to dig a hole about a foot in diameter to find the clad quarter :D

I had a Bounty Hunter Tracker II and moved up to a 350 real nice, best of luck

I have been trying to dig holes no more than 3" wide, but get fooled once in a while when the coin is not lying flat or verticle. Or it is the gremlins being mean...... :tongue3:

Great going there. I've had an Ace 250 for a few years and it took me a good while to get used to it. I had some people telling me to hunt in all metal and dig everything. If that drives you crazy try hunting in coin mode for about 50 hours or so to get a feel for it. Turn the sensitivity back 2 or 3 notches from the right side and you will get far fewer false or funny signals. Learning the quirks about the 250 will be easier that way. Power lines overhead and buried ones will make it act real funny too. Hope you find a lot.

The 250 is great machine, I got one as a back up and allow my kids and uncle to use it when we get out. They have made some great finds
including a 1921 d Mercury about 4 inches deep. Just get it over the good stuff and it will let you know its there ;D

The Ace 250 goes crazy over the bottel caps and aluminum cans. Mine bounces from silver dollar to iron and reads 6 inches deep. That is one signal I have learned to ignore. Yours may act differently, but it is all about learning how to read your machine.

pinpoint one direction put in a golf tee where you think it is . turn 90 degrees pinpoint again put in another golf tee keep at it till the tees are close together. quick way to learn pinpointing. HH

My old ACE 250 is my "tag along" detector since I got my new ATpro, but it would never come in second place to just about any coin shooter. You'll want to move up one of these days as we all do but you will never want to get rid of your 250! Monty

the 250 is my first "real" detector. ive been at it since mid summer last year. ive hit some hammered to death areas with it and pulled a few decent coins, like a 1927 wheat that was 7 1/2" deep! the pinpointing is a little bit tricky, though. i take the coil and pull it backwards over the target intil i hear the beeeeeeeep, then i put a stick in the small loop on the back of the coil. then turn 90 degrees and do it again. hope this helps! ur gonna love this hobby!

Congrats on your first quarter. :icon_thumleft: I started with an Ace 250 too and found it an easy machine to use. Still have it for the kids to use. Your pinpointing will get better!

The Ace 250 was my first machine. I got some good advice on here and other forums. It was basically this and I really got to know the ace and found some good stuff with it even in spots where there was not a lot to be found. I would put it in custom and notch out everything below nickels and dig all repeatable signals. If you swing it and it hits both ways, dig it. This only has to be facing one way. If it hits both ways dig it. If you will do this til you have a hundred hours on the machine you will be surprised at how good you get at knowing what it is telling you. If you do not have a pinpointer get one, I recommend the Garrett pro-pointer. It will speed up your recoveries. Get on Youtube and watch videos of people using the Ace 250, a guy named Daddydigger1 has a lot of videos using the Ace. You can also find a tutorial video for pinpointing with it on youtube. If you stick with it you will find the good stuff and really get hooked on the hobby.
