I finally got out to detect now that I'm done with classes. After a winter of scouring the county atlas and looking on Google Earth I had a long list of potential sites. I chose the best ones and set off.
Site #1: No one home
Site #2: No one home
Site #3: No one home
So, dejected and frustrated, I set off to a park that caught my eye in the past. The park itself is the site of an old farmhouse. Unfortunately the spot where the house sat is now the playground (the foundation was left in place) so there is a ton of new soil dumped on top of the area surrounding the house. I tried an adjacent area but gave up due to the geese and all they left behind.
It seems like I can't even get the chance to talk to landowners. If they refused I would at least have the knowledge of where I can't go. Driving around and knocking on doors and getting no response is really annoying.
