Hi everyone,
Well, the snow is gone, and the ground is thawed thanks to a freak heat wave, and about 3 straight weeks of rain. Now it's warm & sunny, I even had my Ninja on the road Friday afternoon (about 2 months early for motorcycle season).
I decided that I would head to the Ghost town that I had posted pictures of back before Christmas, and make that the first hunt of the season. I started the hike in about 6:30 in the morning. It's about a 2-3 mile hike in, so it took a little while to get in there. I didn't take my camera because it looked like it may rain , which it did very hard on my way out and probably would have ruined my camera. I was very excited on the way in, just imagining all the great stuff I would find. Just before I got to the town site, I noticed 3 Bighorn Sheep up on the hillside watching me, they watched me the whole time I was there, wish I had brought the camera now. It didn't take long after I started that I discovered that there is an awful lot of junk in the ground there. I guess there must have been some town law that anything metallic must be buried, and that all objects must be buried separately no closer than 12 inches from each other. I mean there was literally tons of trash there, I couldn't believe just how crazy the machine was going. After 3 hours I had become pretty discouraged and called it a day. I did find some wheat pennies, a Mercury dime, and a silver spoon, and some bullets. I also found a shell casing from a 32-20, which I don't think has been made in a long time. I also found a bank safety deposit box key tag form the "Guarantee trust savings bank of Los Angles" . I did a Google search on it, and that bank was bought out by another bank in 1909, and eventually became what is now the Bank of America.
Sunday morning I decided to go to Triangle park by my house. This is the park that I had posted pictures of in December, the one that use to have a road going through it with the row of trees still there. I did great here. I ended up with a pile of clad that my kids used most of to buy candy with at the store across the street. I also found 2 silver quarters, a Mercury dime, a silver roosie, some wheat pennies, 3 kids rings, a large copper bracelet, a gold anchor chain bracelet,, a religious medallion, some misc jewelry finds, 3 keys, a bottle cap shaped key chain with a key, and an arcade token. I just worked a small section, but I dug most targets. I see a guy detecting here once in a while, so I know he has already got the easy targets. I ended up with a lot of pull tabs, and shredded can pieces (what I call alien spacecraft parts). I plan to work this spot a little every day if I can because there is a lot of ground to cover

Great finds, I am glad that the snow melted enough that you can get some hunting time in.

yes they do come out nice. I wish wheaties came out as clean as silver does. I think it's great how silver and gold comes out of the ground.....you know without a doubt it's silver or gold.

Nice haul Paul! Looks like you had an excellent first hunt for the year. Alien spacecraft parts, that's a good one. Good luck to ya and hopefully that nice weather will hold out for you. HH!

Hey Groundfisher, those aliens used a lot recycled can parts, bottle caps, and pull tabs to build those things. Every city park has an alien spacecraft crash site in it, that's why you find all those pull tabs, bottle caps, and can pieces in them!

Nice haul Paul! Know what you mean about the rain. It was sunny here today but wind 30+ & chill factor about 26. It sure is nice to find that silver isn't it?
