First hunt gives a big hunting button

Hello, I Md'ed a beach that often times washes up old shotgun shells. I got some clad, and I saw this green thing in some rocks. Turned out to be a big button. It's pretty oxidized, but here is what i can make out on the back. It looks like a baseball diamond, reading clockwise, it says 1, 7, 4, A, with a RD (or RB) above the 4. Any ideas appreciated, thanks

Thanks PBK! That is very helpful. Although the character indicating the year is wiped out, I know it predates 1883
