I couldn't resist the temptation of getting out there before the cold moved in yesterday. So I headed to a local spot where I scored my first Morgan a few weeks back and my second breast plate for 2013 and lots of old coins. Previously I have run into a fellow detectorist on this site who has been detecting a good 36 years he uses white old blue and gray series. I talked with him awhile and told him the newer detectors are a lot better then the older ones but he said he couldn't leave his old blue and gray he is loyal to the core. But honestly I have just been blown away from the finds from this site. I have re-hit just a few area's he previously hit and in the past few weeks I scored a beautiful 1881 Morgan Dollar a 1812 eagle breast plate and yesterday with in a matter of 15 minutes on a spot he hit for over a hour I scored a beautiful 1852 one cent piece as this was a first for me of this type of coin much smaller than a regular large cent but heavier and then a few moments later I score a 1887 IH in awesome condition and then a mystery coin and if anyone has info on this please feel free to let me know I can almost make out what appears to be a shield on it and someone went to the trouble of punching a small hole in it . I also scored a old lock a badge of some sort with a pharaohs head on it and something which was another first a set of WW1 dog tags dating 1894 on the tag. Which I cant wait to set them in a nice display and hand them to the owner as these where her grand father's.Also scored a big flat button a few wheat's and two knifes one wood handled and one kind of odd .ANd still have lots of yard to cover ! Thanks for looking !

Nice hunt good you got out. I hit a field very quickly yesterday but only managed two buckles now we got snow and cold ...hate winter.

Nice finds! Coin is in great shape!

I was amazed at the size difference in the large cent's kind of different .... im hoping to find more in the back yard just have to wait for the deep freeze to end if it wasnt for that id be there today but I dont move so well when it gets down in below 20 degree's burrrrrrrrrrrr .... so I guess this will give me a chance to clean some relics today inside the house !

Holy smokes, great finds and one heck of a site you're on there. I can't imagine finding a Morgan dollar.
That pharaoh piece is a watch FOB.
Great post,
MM

I am really curious about the mystery coin , it was heavily incrusted with thick patina and I after cleaning it today I discover it is solid bronze. I actually had to take a soft wire brush and do some scrubbing on it. I can see what appears to be a shield on it and a figure on the left side of the shield . From my research on bronze reale's from the 1600's they where kind of crude . Hoping a expert will chime in on this one .IMG_1589.jpgIMG_1591.jpg
