Eny out for a bit today. I hiked into an old gold mining town on the south fork of the American river. This place is normally under water. But since we are having a very dry winter the lake is the lowest I have ever seen it. Spent most of the time walking and site seeing. But did detect for a bit.

Awesome Chinese Coin! If You Find Out The Date Let Us Know.

Very nice.Congrats.HH.

Ok so I hit the coin with a tooth brush. Looks like (as best I can tell) it is from the chi'lung dynasty from mid to late 1700's

Cool old find, nice.

Nice find! There seems to be a run Chinese coins here lately.
Now I feel left out, got to find myself one...after we thaw out up here!

Seriously, you made an awesome find. I hope you get back to that site before rains fill it back in. Your coin was probably from miners in the area, ya think? I, too, think that bridge is a beauty. Thanks for sharing your pics. We all learn with great visual aids as well as a good written account.:coffee2:

A friend of mine found one in the same spot over the weekend. I'm going to try and get back out Sunday. I have to work on Saturday. Damn job always gets in the way of fun.

Are these coins worth anything? And yes I think this is from the Chinese gold miners during the gold rush. This spot at its prime had a population of 3000 people. I have had some good luck here. It is very hard to hunt due to all the iron in the ground. Square nails all over too.

Awesome finds for the new year, especially the Chinese coin! May 2014 bring in many Happy Huntings and great finds!

Well, typically, they aren't worth a whole lot, a dime a dozen comes to mind. But they are a great indicator for determining age of a site and other important factoids. this is why I was excited to find mine between two gold rush era mines. I am certainly going to comb the area thoroughly for both Silver and Gold because of this.

Thanks for the reply. I really do not sell any of my finds. I hunt for the thrill and to get out of the house. But a friend of mine asked me to ask. I think he wants it. If that's the case I'll just give it to him. What are friends for?

What ever you do, don't take my word for the value. You should look into it first. I don't like selling my finds, but unfortunately, I've had to sell some and it pains me to do it. But such is life.
