Detector(s) used
Garrett Ace 250, Bounty Hunter 505, White's Bullseye II
Greetings to all! Wanted to drop a note to say hello, wife and I are new to the hobby and are looking forward to having some fun and maybe even finding a "treasure" or two....

Actually, about 30 yrs ago my uncle gave me his "backup" detector and I spent a summer hunting my grandparents 25 acre farm, found quite a few of my dad's old toys, etc......mentioned this to my wife a few weeks ago, she thought it would be fun to give it a shot, and here we are!

We found this forum about the same time, started watching and really caught the bug! Have to say that we have really enjoyed ALL the finds as well as the helpful advice everybody has. Decided to go with the Garrett Ace 250 for our first detector to get our feet wet. Once that was done, had to find a place to try it out, of course. As luck would have it, our neighborhood has a private playground --- ahhhh, that good friend, the "tot lot"......so wife and I packed up and trekked the two whole blocks to find our fortune!!!

Since my wife actually watched the Garrett video, I turned her loose first......after about an hour of swinging, with absolutely nothing to show for it, she decided to give me a shot at it. Not sure what I did differently, but immediately hit a nice-sounding "DING" from the Garrett - and produced a 1993 nickel - my first "FIND"! :D Ever see anybody get excited about clad?? Sorry, I did ;D.....now I'm thinkin' I gotta be King 'o the Detectors, hehehehehehe.......wife's take on the whole thing, of course, would be laughing and calling me a name (see username above ;))....that's OK, found something before she did, I reminded her 8)

Second hit came not 2 feet away, gave up my first Kennedy half dollar - now after watching this forum, I knew that I had taken a "good one" off my virgin list! At this point, I'm ready to go........gave the lot a quick once over, about an hour with the Garrett trying to learn what I could, found out that it really is pretty easy to figure out and looks like a good choice to start out - time will tell!!

All in all, didn't think it was a bad first day out, total of two hours between my wife and I produced 21 coins for $1.53, and lots of miscellaneous junque - covered my basic "clad bases", with 13 pennies, 2 nickels, 3 dimes, 2 quarters and the 1 Kennedy half, oldest coin being a '59 penny (sorry, just missed my wheaties ::))........and we're headed back to give my wife another shot at it, since she was the recipient of some pretty good ribbing when we were done (made sure she knew that I was WAAAAAY better at this hobby already)........I just KNOW it's gonna come back to haunt me, always does, but I couldn't help myself.... :D :D

Again, thanks to all for sharing your finds, gets us ready to go find ours! Nothing earth-shattering here, but I'll put the picture out for all the marvel at mediocrity.......did like the little toy coal car, tho......

HH to all this weekend!

Welcome to the forum, Captain Clad! I still get a rush when finding all types of coins, even that scrappy memorial.

Wow a half on your first trip! Great job! :) Oh and Kirk...could you please cover your cone when you see a new member...you have already scared a few off! :D Glad you shaved though...now you need to get back in the fields...Paco is digging up all the goodies! :)

Good job! Don't tease the wifey too much, you want her there with you. I hear it's much more fun with spouse as a detecting buddy.
By the way. What did the plastic dime come up as??? :D ;D :D ;D ;)

Welcome to T-Net, Capt Clad & Wifey!!

Looking mighty dang good, yep it is exciting to dig up clad, cause you never knew about those hidden treasures beneath your feet. I'm hearing a lady's voice saying "giveme, giveme, your time it up, it's my turn." ;D ;D Christmas is right around the corner and someone has visons and it's not sugar plums either. :o

;) RR

Thanks to all for your support! Always fun to start out, have lots of "firsts" just waiting ;D. And I promise not to give my wife (AKA Corporal Punishment) too much grief --- besides, I know it's coming right back at me -- just the way we are!!

Kirk, don't worry about the new look, not gonna scare us away (jeez, I mean look at our avatar already.....long story ;)). I've really enjoyed reading about yours, and everybody's, hunts -- it has inspired me to include our modest adventures here as well.....don't have any CW fields here in Oregon, after a bit of research seems like anything before about 1900 is tough.........anything in the 1800's is considered a museum relic, I think ;D

I'll be posting our second hunt later today, after pics are ready......and lets just say, as promised, the Captain may have been humbled just a bit.......knew I shoulda left the Corporal behind --- true to her alias, sufficient punishment was heaped upon CC >:( ;D

By the way, plastic dime came up as a "hey, look what I found when I kicked the wood chips...." yep, that Nike 11 came through again ;D But included it anyway......

Hope everybody finds lots of goodies today, can't wait to spend my evening here looking.

Thanks again,

Steve

Hello Captain and Mrs. clad.... Welcome to Treasure Net...You did great for the first trip out. Yep, Christmas IS right around the corner....Captain, you might have to buy yourself one, lol. It is great to have my wife with me hunting the treasures. We borrowed my sisters Ace 250 to go along with mine and we had a ball. If you get the Ace 250's too close together they will act a little odd. They feedback through each other. I am sure you will be able to find some nice goodies with your new Ace 250. I've had mine since last Christmas and it has served me very well.

Best of luck to both of you,

DANGLANGLEY

Welcome to Tnet !
Glad to have you two aboard , and grats on that fist full of loot !
Be sure to read all the posts about the Ace in the Garretts Reviews ,
you'll get lots of good tips there to make your Ace vacuum up the loot :)

Keep swingin and keep us posted

ah what year is the half and your dimes ? remember any dimes ,quarters or halves 1964 or before have 90% silver content -- silver clad halves only after that--- 40% silver in 65 thru 70 halfs only -- after 70 no silver at all in the coins --- added bonus--- silver war nickles 1942.43.44.45 the govt pulled the nickle in the nickles for the war effort and used silver instead ---they are 35% silver content and have a Large mint mark letter on the back --- its very easy to ID them --- Ivan

Hi Ivan ---

Thanks for the info, I've been doing my best to figure out the differences as we go....unfortunately, everything was in the 90's, the half was a 1990 and the oldest dime was 1991.......but we're still watching!!

Thanks,

Steve
