Hi everyone!

I just recently purchased my metal detector and got a chance to go on my first hunt yesterday on some property that has been in my husband's family for at least the last 80 years. I was hunting in an area where there used to be some old sharecropper houses that I had been able to find on some aerial photographs dating back to the 1940's. I don't know for sure how long they had actually been there prior to that. I only had a few hours to hunt, but turned up a few items, two of which I cannot identify. The first is a leaf shaped object that has an adjoining leaf at the bottom. It appears to be made of some type of thin metal and has two metal pieces attached to the back. It also has a little bit of a maroon type coloring in two spots. The other item is very heavy and looks like it has the shape of a bird on top (or at least what I think is the top!) and piece of curved metal attached at the bottom. It seems to be encased in some type of concrete which I was afraid to remove in case it was part of it. If any one has any idea what either of these might be, I would really appreciate any information. I think my husband came out the best. He was walking along and stumbled across a beautiful arrowhead just laying on the ground. The old family home still sits on the property and I am anxious to get back and hunt around it! :icon_sunny:

Thanks!

The top pic looks like a tie slide, and for some reason, the second pic looks like a trigger from and old musket that someone tried to hide in concrete and the gun and concrete got broken up, and all you have found so far, is just a small piece of whats left. :icon_study:

The first is either a tie slide, or half of a ladies' sash buckle.

The second one is part of a corroded toy cap gun.

This afternoon I scrubbed the the second object and chipped away carefully at the curved piece of metal. It was a handle from a piece of silverware. I was able to get a pattern off of it and found out it was the remnants of a 1934 Burgundy/Champaigne spoon or fork. After removing it I noticed the lump of metal it had been embedded in had a highly reflective silver interior. Still no clue what it is. The metal looks grainy, but is very, very shiny. Sorry the pictures are not great. My camera doesn't take closeups too good. I really appreciate the replies. :)

The maroon looking paint on the leafy thing, looks like what happens when you try to str8n something old and brassy without gently heating it first. And the (spoon handle) looks like it was bent into that shape purposefully, like maybe it was going to be used for something else. What you may have found was their trash burning pit.

That last handheld item looks like the handle off a piece of flatware. Monty
