Had a couple of hours to kill this PM. Thought Id check out a cellar hole Ive been itchin to visit....Nothin doin....6" of snow and hard frozen ground beneath.
Cant hunt where I want , Ill hunt where I can. Stopped along a local river where Ive noticed boats parking and partying in the summer. The river was down about 3ft from its summer depths , and there was a 10ft wide swath of sand exposed from the waters current edge ,running maybe 200yards. Started working my way along , finding what I expected.....tons of twist caps and pull tabs. After awhile Id dug so many junk signals that my head was spinning , so I picked a different line, turned up my disc, and headed back toward the truck.Dug a few coins on the way and then got a signal that , although it was a "low" tone ,overrode my disc....O.K. Ill bite....I sank my digger in deep and pulled out a big wad of semi frozen sand....and on the bottom...a glint of gold. Almost did a happy dance , but I had a stinkin suspicion......sure enough .....a class ring. Now dont get me wrong . I know it is rewarding to return lost items to thier owners (Ive returned 4 of 7 class rings to date)
but Ive found that adding gold to my treasure box feels even more rewarding!
....anyway......I pocket this "extreme" class ring and start swingin again and get a high hit....bingo...a sterling ring. Start out again , and....bingo...another sterling....one more time...bingo...a Titanium band. The four rings were in a straight line , each about five ft from the next. I had been there for an hour and hunted another hour without finding anything of interest. So, I had a great 10 minutes of hunting and two hours of diggin junk.....and..... it was an absolute beauty of a day in MI.
Heres some pics and best of luck to all.
