First good find with the Deus - and it's a mystery

Got the Deus in the mail today and took it out to a pounded 1800-1900's homesite. I found this about 11 inches down. It seems to be copper and is 2.25" wide. Has the alphabet but only letters A - P, and three counted sunk holes. The letters are stamped as the "E" is slightly incomplete. Any thoughts? disc.jpg

One of the eye doctor wheels to read the letters.Crazy guess!!!!!!! IM bored

First clue the lettering with serifs generally makes it older that 20th century.

Could it be a whirligig toy with more holes than needed?

pretty sure that it's from the dial of a combination lock. antique post office boxes (for example) used alphabetical dials

Seems a little large for a PO Box dial, or even for a padlock?
Maybe a lettered combination dial from a safe or vault?? :dontknow:

Is the center hole off-centered or is that an illusion? Whatever it is, those letters appear to be hand stamped (not by a machine) Thats why the J is upside down. Its easy to make this mistake with hand punches.

How thick is it? Any clues, marks or circular scratches on the backside?

Looks like part of a "Cipher Disk" to me.

I had to look up a Deus 1st. "NICE".. This is a good mystery find. A combo dial for a lock or ww1 pigeon message decoder device is all my mind is coming up with :dontknow:. Someone I hope will solve this as I'm very curious as to what this is ??

not off center. Looks to be about 3/16" thick with no backside marks
