DAY 1
I went back to camp for another weekly hunt. Worked over an area between 2 sites and started the edge of the next site. I don’t have a picture, but my favorite find of the day was actually a bald Eagle that flew out of a tree above me and landed in a tree across the lake. A beautiful sight.
I spent 6.5 hours swingin the CZ21 and found 82 coins with a face value of $6.17, 91 camp tent pegs (this makes a new milestone for pegs, I crossed the 19,000 mark since I started here in 2013), a multi tool, a Coleman stainless knife, 2 belt hooks for pocket knives, a Canadian penny, a scout YOU MAKE THE DIFFERENCE token, part of a MUSIC pendant, a carabiner, a broken bracelet, 2 sinkers, a rope tensioner, some tabs and melted aluminum from the campfires.
Before last week I had never found a multi tool and now I have found 2 in 2 weeks. It’s funny how these things work out. This one was a cheapie. A Walmart Ozark Trail tool that sells for around $11. It looks like it was lost before it even go a chance to be used. Not even dirt on the case (it was found in the middle of a pile of this years leaves, no dirt). Not great coin or money wise, but the camp does keep giving up plenty of stuff.
DAY 2
I wanted to go someplace different on my birthday and so I chose the old church picnic ground that is used for Pee Wee football these days. I have covered a lot of the ground and wanted to see how the Equinox would perform is sections I have hit pretty hard in the past. Up to this point I had only used it on the beach so this was the first time in Park 1. Most of the coins I found were recent losses on the surface under the long grass (it needed mowing badly) or just below the surface dirt. The can tabs, and there were a lot of them, gave a good strong signal and were easy to retrieve. A lot of these had probably registered on the CZ21, but I just didn’t dig them. No old or deep silver and only about 3 coins deeper than an inch so it looks like the CZ did ok. I’ll have to go back after the grass is mowed and cover some more area to tell for sure.
I spent 5 hours with the Equinox and found 38 coins face value of $5.38, 2 rings, a bullet imbedded in wood, a hair pin, 2 wheaties (1940, 1957D) a bunch of tabs, some foil and can slaw.
Since I am still learning what numbers are most likely to be good I am leaving the iron turned off and digging most everything. I was getting some 7 and 9 readings that were a low tone and were flattened wads of aluminum foil from food sold at the concession stand. One of the low steady 9 readings turned out to be a gold ring about 5 inches down. I still got the same 9 reading out of the ground. It is a nicely designed 14k ring with a green stone. The stone looks bad and it tests as junk. This is not the first time I have found nice gold rings, 14k and 18k with cheapie stones. The ring is a beautiful design, too bad it’s not a real emerald, but is is my first gold since my new year started on May 1st so that’s great.
DAY 3
I went back to the school trying to finish up some sections hoping for some goodies. In 5 hours swingin the CZ21 I found 26 coins with a face value of $1.65, a clock frame, a civil war bullet, a meal token, a game tab, a mystery item with US on it, a heart pendant, another brass mystery item, a bottle of perfume (still smells nice), a toy car (Swingin Wing from 1969-73), a few tabs, can slaw and whole cans and an assortment of the usual junk.
When I dug the civil war bullet I thought it had been carved, but when I got the dirt off I could tell it had been hit by something, probably during construction. It is a Williams type lll cleaner bullet. The plunger is missing, but you can see how the plunger stretched out the hole when the bullet was hit and cut. The token is another B & O TIE PLANT MEAL with the number 18. This makes 5 of these meal tokens from this site. I’ve seen a lot of B&O railroad stuff and never seen one of these before I started digging them up. I can’t find them anywhere on line. To me that makes them a special find.
I found a couple of whatzits. I posted them in the WHAT IS IT? Forum. The first one looks like a miniature picture frame. The oval top piece has tiny tabs that make it possible to put an oval picture in it and then replace it on the larger part. The piece that came out of the middle is flexible enough to allow it to form a stand. The design and the US on the base suggests to me that it was for a picture of a loved one for a soldier to keep in his pocket as he traveled or for a soldier to give a picture to a loved one to remember him while he is away (Possibly World War 1).
The second one I have no real clear idea of what it was for. It may be an end for a razor strop or something of that nature. It is silver plated and the plating is black with tarnish. It has PAT PEND on the back for Patent Pending and the design suggests to me 1920s or 30s.
This week I found 2 quarters in a coin return, 3 pennies in a coinstar and a Canadian dime in another coinstar. I also found a few other coins in my normal comings and goings. Keep your eyes open, treasure is everywhere, even if it is only a penny here and there (they do add up).
So a good week and a nice gold ring for my first gold in my new year (started May 1). Got some interesting oldies too, you can’t ask for much more than that. Thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
