I have been lurking here for a while. Based on reviews at TreasureNet, I chose an Ace 250 as a likely machine that was within my budget. This is my first time using a MD.
Got it this weekend, read the instructions, watched the video and hit the back yard last night. Going by the book, I started out with it on all metal mode planning on digging every hit and trying to learn the machine. Right as I went into the back yard I got my first hit. The indicator would bounce from Iron to tab, but it would mostly settle to the 5 cent reading. I thought this would be a great chance to learn what would make a false reading. I was surprised to dig up a flat round object that turned out to be a 1999-D Jefferson. COOL!
Dug a few iron nail that gave a good flat iron tone, then I hit a clear high pitch coin tone and found a penny near where the former owner of the house had a hammock hanging.
I knew there had to be coins near the old Kid's playscape in the backyard, because I would put pennies in the sand box when my kids were little and let them dig them up. The sand box was covered with a tarp (to keep the cats out) and it has been over 10 years since anyone has played in it. Two pennies came from the area around the swing and the really cruddy zincs came from the sand box. I guess that is what 10+ years in wet sand does to zinc?
Anyway, this is not exactly the treasure find of the century, but ...
DUDE, I FOUND COINS !!!!!!!
My plans now are to spend more time in the back yard learning what ACE is trying to tell me.
Oh, by the way...
Yearly total = 1 nickel, 5 pennies
