Hello all,
signing back in after the holidays to update everyone on my new found hobby. My Detector came in last saturday right in time for x-mas so i wasn't able to get out and test her out for a few days but i finally got out monday and went to a 150 year old dump on the border of my buddy's farm land. About 95 percent of my holes were barbed wire so i quickly learded how to handle the discrimination feature. All i found that day was a cool cobalt blue bottle, an old glass pill bottle and an old leg to a desk or some other furniture. After that i decided i had better get used to this whole metal detecting thing at my girlfriends house whic is an old school house. After about 4 hours of rainy day detecting in between the snow banks i had found .35 in clad (quarter and dime) and about a dozen or so hot wheels about 2 inches down. Her little brother should enjoy them well. So that brings me to today. After i had gotten breakfast and cleaned up i had decided to give it a run around in the snow flurries back up by the dump. This place is littered on top with barbed wire, old rusting car parts and house hold appliences. I guess there was an old house back there that was torn down ( and i would like to find out exactly where it was). But being tired and a little lazy i decided not to walk straight up the trail but to cut below the dump and work straight up the mini ravine its next to. Walking up around the water was fun, just looking at what things had deposited itself in the little pools here and there. Alot of broken glass around which i find neat to look at and see about what time period it cam from. Its a shame that there is so much newer stuff on top and all the older stuff is really burried but i'll get there eventually. Well about 20 yards up the ravine i saw a glint in the water which caught my eye. I crouched down to see what it was an it looked to be a mens ring, wel i jumped up and hopped over the log that was infront of it and reached back and pulled up a class ring from a high school on the other end of the county from 1979. I was soo jazzed, i was like hey thats pretty neat. And the cooler/ more neat part is that i found it while looking, the detector wasn't even out of the bag yet. What a rush. And to finish up my little story here i got up on top of the hill to the dump and found a few more decent in tact bottle and 2 1961 pennies in the same hole and thats about it. But yea having an awesome time playing around and getting use to the signals from the MD and having a blast walking through the mush around here. Everyone have a great New Year and thanks for reading.

a find is a find!....and thats a great one! ;)

Wow what an exciting place! That is cool you eyeballed the ring :o I started out digging through bottle dumps and such before i got a detector, they are still my favorite place.

;D Sounds like a kid in a candy shop to me ! Glad your having so much fun! ;D ;D ;D

So no one has asked you yet, I think because they don't think you will...so I will. Are you going to look for the rings owner? My first and only real find was huge fat college ring in perfect shape and guess what? I knew the owner had lived in my house, before we did. It was the man who sold our home to us! I found him after about a month and made a new friend! After all if you know the truth 10k isn't that big of a deal and it made a man VERY happy ! Infact I would have gotten more money if I had taken what he offered as a reward, then if I had wanted to sell it. So you may just want to look into...finding who owned it. Its cool getting to return something that usually means a lot to someone! ;D And as they say ... it makes for good karma.

Happy Hunting!!! ;D

Bushido, I agree with Gigi. Find the owner instead of thowing it in a box with your other finds.

You're doing well with your detector if you're finding pennies in a trashy site like that.

.....And I love the quote at the bottom of your post even though some "rightly constructed girls" look for treasure, too.

Hello all,
thank you all for the replies and comments. Gigi, i totally agree with you and have already begun to get that rock rolling. My aunt's life partner graduated in 77 from that school and his sister the same year as on the ring (79) so hes going to give his sister a call for me sometime this week and have her check out her yearbook and find a name and face for me perhaps. And thank you haupin for the comment on the quote, i skipped accross that one day and felt it had to be shared ;D . Hope everyone had a great new years eve and lets all hope for a better year then the last.
God Bless America

I agree about trying to return the ring to the owner. I once returned a man's gold wedding band that had been lost for nearly 50 years. It was a good feeling. H H !

Definitely return the ring if you can. you never know what will happen. could be the guy lives in a old farmhouse or something and will let you detect it.
