Went out with fellow tneter dsw08 this evening .Had to start with a bang ,we started at an older schoolyard built around 1900 .WErenthaveing much luck so we just walked on over a few lots ,hitting the grass strips along stone walls .turns out was the site of a blacksmiths shop back into the early 1800s.after swinging for a few minutes my xlt hit a strong but 95 signal ,But where i was told me to dig so dig i did .about 6 inches in the dirt was a padlock ,.a t that point just a pile of rust for the most point.Ill get to the cleaning in a bit.also out of the same area this nice sterling fork was a strong 93 on the meter .the other items i have no idea what they are but along with a couple of bucks in clad it turned out to be a great day and night

Oh I almost forgot .The cleaning was done by just soaking in a lemonade mixture and most of the rust just flaked off.The lock is marked on the brass cover .Its M.W&Co

You found one of my favorites with the old lock. I see them on here a lot but I have yet to snag one. I know not many of them are worth a lot of money and actually if you had found the key they are worth more but theres just something about them that I like. You just know someone a hundred years ago were scratching there head saying where did I put that lock? I just had it here a few minutes ago......... ;D

Awesome Brad!!!!! Lemonade removes rust and I drink it? No wonder it hurts my stomach. I'm impressed that you even went out as cold as it is. You deserve it!! Good Job. ;D

Wow, I agree, nice lock, the brass cover being able to move is great. You might want to treat that lock to prevent further flaking off of the rust. But great item to find, love them old locks!
