It's not much, but the ground was REALLY frozen solid. The only reason I dug this quarter is because the depth meter said 6" and it was right by a set of very old trees. I just HAD to dig it. With my shovel, I spent about 5 minutes just piercing a square around the target, and then popping the lid off. I had to repeat that in the hole, but after about 2.5-3" of frozen ground the shovel bottomed out nicely. I pulled out the target and could see it was a quarter, but still was not sure if it was just a heavily tarnished silver quarter or not... then read the date.. 1965! Dang! I'm getting at least one silver quarter this year, count on it!
The other target was shallow, ringing like a dime at 12-45. When I chipped it out of there I was really surprised to see that it was the shape of a thick nickel with a dollar sign on it. It has two holes on the top edge and bottom edge... I think it might be part of a necklace, not silver or anything, but it is heavy for it's size.
Hopefully by Sunday the ground will be a little better. Woods hunting is the way to go!
