bran spankin new to metal detecting. first finds for my first day were good. nothing old yet.
went with a friend that had permission to hunt rodeo grounds. found 13 quarters 4 dimes and 7 pennies and we didn't even cover 1/4 of the place. had to call it quits cause i had to go to work. sorry didnt take any pics but was all new coins. im using a cheap discovery 1100 and he had a nice at mtx. im hoping to upgrade soon. although i dont think ill go that expensive just yet. im eyeballin a teknetics 4000 right now. im a new to this right now and honestly it fits my budget. he let me use his extra garret pin pointer and i will HAVE to have me one of those. loving this so far. think im hooked. there may be no going back.

WELCOME TO T-NET! :hello: Upgrading is cool when you can afford it, but with my cheep Bounty Hunter Tracker IV & a $25 Harbor Freight pinpointer, I've dug two weighty gold rings, old silver rosary complete with seed beads, several nice silver rings including one for a young lady who'd lost it on the beach that day. And my best surface find was discovered due to first year's poverty-sharing of that detector with my son -- waiting for him to show up with detector, I cruised our fave field eyeballing as well as my nearsighted eyes could manage, and viola! 1923 Peace Silver Dollar eyeball find, disguised as a dusty poker chip, lol. :tongue3: It's still my best find. HAVE FUN! Ya never know what will pop out of beach, park, field or yard. Look for old foundations in empty or trashy fields - ya can't go wrong! Last fall my son upgraded to a Teknetics, which has served him well. Andi

Sweet ! Welcome to the madness. I started out with a lone stare think its by county hunter but it got me hooked. Good work on cleaning up on some coins the old ones will come along with a lot of interesting things. happy hunting and keep us posted on the great treasures in your near future

Welcome :hello: I will say that I have seen many people start the hobby and get frustrated with detectors that simply are too far below par to be productive. May catch some flack over that statement but I would much rather see a person start with a 20 year old good quality detector than something new that will not discriminate or has no depth. Most of the "BIG NAME" detector companies also have lower end detectors that are awesome but are only going to cost about $100 more than the China junk. The Eurotek, F2, Ace 250, Compadre , and so on are often showing up here on Tnet with some awesome finds. Congrats on your finds and hoping to see some killer stuff posted in the future.:icon_thumleft:

Great Stuff!...Sounds like you are in a good area....Welcome to the best hobby (obsession) ever!

Here's your flack. ;)

I'd rather see all newbies using the cheapest, simplest detectors. At least until they "pry mine from my cold dead fingers." ;)

Too much competition already. LOL

Thanks everyone. I just stumbled onto this madness. The detector i'm using belongs to my F-I-L. He told me i could use it until i could get me a good one. It's feeding my addiction until i can buy me one. I saw it and said "hey can i try that out". LOL. I was hooked on the first beep. where has this been all my life.
Looking forward to posting some really good finds. Some friends of mine that do this all the time have invited me to a place around a place call poverty point in la. I hear it's old civil war stuff there. really looking forward to that.

Thats nice finds for your first day.Good luck and enjoy your hunting.

Can't go wrong with a demo or used Tesoros and they'll always have a warranty. Not very expensive at all and the quality is excellent.
