XLT, GM3, GM4b
It was a big day :o :o :o
I took the whites goldmaster 4b out to a closed campground.
First dig was a AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, STUPENDIOUS 1976 nickle with a street value, of Im guessing 5 cents :P.
I should have quit there. I dug about another 40 targets and they were all trash and I only covered about 4 feet. I was ready to give up after about 10 targets :-[
I was using my new 4-6" DD coil, I cant say that I was impressed by it. I am thinking the detector is going to get packed away till i either get to go to gold country or the beach.

Don`t get discouraged! Its all about learning to use your detector and using common sense in detecting. Go slow and discriminate if the detector allows it and if it doesn`t then just listen to the signals and use your best judgement. If you don`t discriminate then it will sound off at everything. Be prepared to do alot of digging. You will dig alot of trash but sooner or later you will find something good and believe me it will be worth all the waiting and digging!................take care!.................Clark!

yeah thats true! Just keep diging! A lot of signals I get are very iffy... but end up being something either deep or large. I think everyone finds their fair share of trash. The beach is full of it too :( I'd say keep working at it. I haven't found anything "great" yet, but you just never know what you willk dig up :)

dont give up yet robbor. just like anything else, it takes tons of practice to get good at detecting and learning how to interpret what your machine is telling you. in time, you will be able to tell the trash from the good stuff.

Don't get discouraged about it. An old campground is going to be full of trash and probably not a good place to learn at. My favorite places to hunt are front yards of old homes. People take better care of their homes than they would a campground. Much less trash. Good luck. Eric

Been there many times. I've quit THing at least 1000 times.

I've had days when I'd been thrilled to have found a Memorial cent.

Many people miss-understand treasure hunting. The hunt itself is a major part of the whole deal. The discomfort, boredom, failures, and sometimes pain of the hunt, is part of what makes finding the treasure so sweet.

If we could just waltz out almost anywhere and dig loot this whole thing would be nothing more than another greed experience.

Find some nice old lady who will let you dig up her 110 year old yard ;D

The ring in my avatar was found while I was having that same sort of day minus the nickel.
like prior posts tell you, discriminate and learn the sounds of your machine. It won't be long till you're hooked like the rest of us.

this is so true. if you found silver or gold on every hunt you went on, it wouldnt be as special as it is when you
do find it. sometimes the treasure is just getting out.

I have been metal detecting for 11 years now and I found more last year than the 10 previous years combined. It takes time to learn your detector and also takes intuition (that you gain with experience). Keep swinging and I guarantee you will start finding more treasure and lesss junk and the treasure you do find will be worth so much more to you.

You really do have to dig a lot of trash sometimes to find the keepers,we all do. Don't let one lousy day discourage you; you have to find a different spot and go at it again. Good luck and keep trying. :)

if ya have a bad day fishing or golfing ya don't give up do ya ?? you try to figure a better way for next time maybe a different pond or a different putter, iv'e gone through 6 .... but ive never put my clubs or poles away..........keep swinging you'll get it.. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

Oh good heavens! DON'T GET DISCOURAGED! Ask anyone on here.... I'm the one who gets discouraged. Keep at it.. You will start finding good stuff soon. Then when you do... You'll expect it all the time. It just doesn't happen that way. You have good days and bad days. Your good days will come. Stick with it. Anyway.. you beat my 2 cent day! ::)
