I went to an estate sale earlier today(I'm on my honeymoon in Orlando and figured I'd try to make a little cash while im here). At 1 everything went half price, so I spent 45 mins getting everything sterling that I could find. Also managed to pick up the small 14k necklace. I don't have my scale so I have no idea on weights. Picked up everything for 56. I did drop one of the candle sticks and it broke, so I went ahead and cleaned everything out of it. Any ideas on if I should do that with the others or not? I have room in my luggage if I need to bring them home solid, but if they're just worth scrap anyways I'd just assume clean them while here. The tie clips look pretty cool. I think I'd be better off using ebay for those. 2014-02-17 19.22.10.jpg2014-02-17 19.01.14.jpg2014-02-17 19.21.28.jpg2014-02-17 19.02.27.jpg2014-02-17 19.02.36.jpg2014-02-17 19.02.45.jpg2014-02-17 19.20.57.jpg2014-02-17 22.51.12.jpg2014-02-17 22.51.37.jpg Any thoughts on how I'm doing so far? I still have another 4 days of garage sales/estate sales to hit :D.

First off, Congrats on your marriage :hello2:

I wouldn't put the items in my luggage. Have heared to many stories about items missing.

Think about sending it back USPS flat rate box.

Wait to you get back home and check the bay sold listings for what items sold for. Spoons might go for more then scrap.

Disagree about mailing the stuff home. It hardly takes up any space and the items aren't worth much money. Put the 14k in your pocket and the rest in your luggage. Don't waste money mailing this stuff home.

Now is a bad time to scrap silver. Recommend trying to sell anything as usable item. On the other hand, those weighted sterling candlesticks typically don't fetch much. Best of luck.

Put it in your carryon luggage. Put it in a clear bag and separate it when it goes through xray. The silver lights up the xray machine like a Christmas tree and if you dont tell them beforehand they will search you. I say this from experience, I brought Home a bunch of silver from Seattle and the TSA was not very happy with me.

Very nice. Most should go better than scrap if you're willing to sell online. Candlesticks, even if not by a good msker or rare pattern will sell if you polish them nicely and sttage them a bit. Sell them in the early fall.

Also- Take a long hard look at that bangle. It's a Mexican street piece and many of them are cupro/nickel stamped 925. They're sold to tourists in outdoor markets.

I think you did real well for an estate sale. Was it run by a company or family members? If a company, do you know the name? Next time I'm in Orlando I will be sure to go to one of their sales. I see 3 bracelets with turquoise colored stones in them. Are they hallmarked with any makers marks? If so what are the marks? Might be able to ID the maker if Native American made. I also see a couple rings, any marks on those? One, I can't make out much, the other appears to be a spoon ring. A better photo/s would help id the pattern and that could significantly increase the selling price of it, possibly to the price of what you paid for the whole lot. The salt spoon pin is cool too, I have a few of those. The Gorham ones usually sell for the most.

I've seen sterling spoon rings SELL for $20-40 on eBay. The 14K chain I estimate will bring $15 in scrap - DO NOT SCRAP. I highly recommend saving it for a pendant (even the daintiest of pendants) and then selling it for at least 3x the spot price (depending on the popularity/weight/stones of the pendant).

On the "do not scrap" note - I don't like to scrap anything that is in good/excellent condition without at least putting forth the effort of eBay. Even if you don't intend on listing it - check sold listings! You may be surprised that the going price is [far] above that of spot.

As others have posted, I would love to have more details on the pieces such as hallmarks, etc.

Thanks for the feedback from everyone.

Randazzo1- I'll test it when I get home. Pretty sure I only paid $2 for it, so if it's fake I wont be losing much.

diggummup - It was a company, but I cant remember the name. When I get home I'll make another post with much better pics/everything else I've found. Just took these on the fly. I really haven't looked over anything to check for marks yet. Figured I'd save that for when I get back to Indiana.

Insontis - I don't intend to scrap the chains(I found a 10k yesterday at a garage sale for $1). These are actually my first legit gold found. I intend to give them to my sister/mom(wife doesnt like gold). As for the spoons, I'll definatnly have to check those out.
