I started with the trusty old AT Pro today because it was raining cats and dogs early in the day. I just got my new to me Etrac yesterday and was itching to try the thing out. The rain tried to throw a wrench in my detecting today but I had already decided that I was getting out there, no if, ands, or buts about it. I found about a buck in clad with the AT Pro at one spot before deciding to grab some lunch to wait for the storm to pass. After my meal I was finally able to try out the new machine. My first impressions of it are overall positive. I love the two-scale vdi with both ferrous and conductive values. I love the ability to customize your machine for generally endless detecting modes. I like the different display options while in detecting mode. Some things I didn't like were pointpointing difficulty (probably my inexperience with the machine), it felt a bit hefty compared to the AT, and I was scared of getting the thing wet all day. Anyways... Here are the finds for the day shown in the first picture. The last picture is an overall finds picture of the past several hunts at this same permission. Thank you for looking.

Nice job nabbing all that silver, looks like you're transitioning nicely to the new etrac.

Have you noticed how the Etrac will scream at you when the coil goes over silver?? Carry a small plastic baggy to place over the control box in the event of a downpour.
Excellent hunt.

Yeah, it definitely rang out over the good coins. I believe I am going to like this machine alot.

Minelabs love silver, mine does, love hearing it scream.....

Congratulations on the fine silver recoveries! :occasion14:

As for being fearful of getting the Etrac wet....

I'd stored mine in the basement for a couple months, in a zipped up bag. The humidity in the air......

I had to send it out for repairs - I think it cost me something like $650 to replace the damage from exposure to the humidity, and that isn't covered by the warranty.

I have used mine in the rain a few times. I haven't hurt it yet. If you get intimidated by the trash, I have a program called Bills Trashy Parks Program that I absolutely think is great. It hasn't found me gold yet but it is deadly on silver and deep silver at that. Let me know if you are interested.

Great silver finds. Hope the E-Trac gets you a lot more. I have a friend that HAD an AT-Pro. Side by side in the Michigan soil I proved the E-Trac was deeper than the AT-Pro. I got signals that no matter what he tried he couldn't get. He sold it and got an E-Trac.

What the AT-Pro has going for it is it is waterproof and versatile. It is a good mid level machine. It cannot compared to an E-trac. For anyone that wants a machine for fresh water and land, that is the way to go if you can't afford two machines.

I absolutely am interested in the program. I will be hunting primarily in trash spots so I would like to experimwnt with coil size and settings to see what works best for me.

As far as the AT Pro goes, I love the machine. I think it is a great detector, probably one I won't ever sell. It is great for turning on and going. Also, it is not so complicated that someone new to the hobby could not take it and find treasure on his or her first hunt.

I cannot wait to get the Etrac down. The tones are wildly different than the Garrett. I was going to buy an XP Deus for areas where it is very cluttered with trash here pretty soon but I think I will give myself some time to master the Etrac before I try learning another machine. Any thoughts?
