IMG_0360.JPGSo I am in the Desert turn it on lower it and it starts beeping and I find a old square nail, I know it's old not worth much but I will keep it and the a rock set it off, this on stumps me if it had iron in it would a magnet love it too? So do I shine the nail or not and what is best way to do so? Thanks:hello2:

I put my squat nails in some apple cider vinegar and let it work the crust off or just a wire wheel if they aren't that bad. The. Put some good outdoor paint and I use them to hang pots and pans or whatever else needs hanging

If this is your very first find, I wouldn't do anything to it at all. Maybe mount it, date it and display. Years down the road, you'll look at it and smile.

Some rocks will set off your detector because they are highly mineralized.

If you start finding them nails here and there.Slow down and check the area out.
