Went to a 1860 farm site. The old house burnt down in 1968. The cellar hole is filled with everthing that was in the house. It will take alot of cleaning up just to detect that part of it. I do know that alot of jewelry was lost in the fire but it's probly a blob of metal now. Found alot of junk but did manage to find and old silver plated bracelet and an old metal toy fire engine. They are soaking now. Felt good just to get out there. I'm normal again. NOT! never been normal.

Nutso,
As a firefighter let me tell you that you may be wrong on that assumption. Depending on where the jewelry was kept and where the fire started and spread too I would say that you could still probably find some jewelry. Sure, it may have some smoke damage to it, and may be disfigured some. Most of it will proably be intact and little heat damage to it. You will be surprised what survives in fires. :)

Hey nutso,
I know exactly how you feel. I got out for the first time also last weekend. Temp. was 73 degrees, and only a few spots of frost, but you could get through it. My first find was a 1929 mercury dime. Found it in a hunted out fairground.
I just hope we don't get another foot of snow before next weekend.

Nutso,
I would encourage you to check that place out carefully! Especially with the jewlery that may or may not be there...melted or not. Maybe there was gold and silver...as far as I know, everyone here would not mind finding either melted silver or gold :-) YOu can always have the metal recast into something you really like!
