First day 2014

I took a trip to the river today to prospect and sluice and found a little dry creek dumping into the main river. I think it is the source of the gold I've been finding down stream. I'll be doing some hiking/sampling over the next couple days. A fringe benefit- there is a bald eagle roaming around and it flew by at about 20ft away at eye level, awesome.

Found some, actually quite a bit more than normal. I went back today but I haven't cleaned out, I'll post pics soon.

Well I posted some on the hard rock section. They don't contain any gold but I think I may have found a silver vain. Tomorrow I will clean out cons and post. But here are the pics of the above mentioned. There is a full explanation under rocks identified.

It has taken some time but I have zeroed in on a good deal of good pay dirt. It is at waist level along the bank of the river I work. Lots of clay and very little river rocks, odd but gold is where you find it. I plan on dredging downstream next summer. Digging is soft and easy and my sluice can't keep up. Can you say bazooka? It looks like one is in my near future. Looking into the prospector 36 heavy.
Here is the take from around six 5 gallon buckets. Most of my time was spent testing and I plan to start production Saturday. There is a little wildlife photo as well.

Couple of suggestions, if your dealing with a lot of clay, I would get the regular 48" Propector with the longer slick plate. Then I would attach a piece of hardware cloth or small expanded metal at the top end. This is to aid in breaking up the clay, you can literally slam it down onto the sluice. If I had to come up with one disadvantage to a fluid bed style sluice, it would be you don't have anything breaking up the clay. Second suggestion, don't worry a out needing a heavier construction, these suckers are tough. You know where I was using mine (actually I've moved way up now towards I----p) but it takes a severe beating, it's taken more then one solo trip down to the river from up by the flumes.

Good call in the 48. I thought about it but everyone raves about them and I haven't heard any problems. I drive within 50 yards or so and packing in isn't a problem. The clay I'm working is moist and loose it is wind deposit from a vertical wall not water packed. I'd like to shoot up that way and my daughters should see my old hometown. Maybe when it gets hot.
