This morning I went down to Dalton , GA to put an application for work in , after taking my drug screen , me and a member here ( GunRunner61) went to a place he knew of that has some interesting history . I,ve been a coin hunter for the last 15 years or so , but started out relic hunting in the Chattanooga area and Cleveland , also . Today I'm proud to say that Greg put me onto a very nice spot , Thank You !!!! The ground is saturated here , dig a hole and you have to sift through the water . Started off with my first three ring
er , then a first for me , maybe a Sharps ?? bullet , not sure , never seen one except for on here .
Dug a few more bits here and there and we went across the tracks to an open field . There I got another first , a wormed three ringer . Started to rain a bit harder and we headed for the Jeep , once there I pulled my finds out of the pouch and was looking at them . Greg took the pulled bullet and washed it off in a puddle , next he took something else , not sure , but I followed with a few more things . Low and behold , we rinsed one item off and there was my third first for the day , lead backed stamped US , not sure what exactly what it came off of , but I was and still am 1 happy camper tonight !!!!

good hunt!! I don't know which is worse; finding no belt plates or finding one in that condition! just kidding..I'd be happy with that!

Thanks Doug !!! Next time we Will get the three of us together for sure .

I was fixing to call you , on the phone with Doug right now , give me a few and I'll get in touch

Looks like you never missed a beat....Nice finds!

Sweet finds. Wish you would of found the whole plate, but hey its still a sweet keeper! 8)

The bullet in question is from a Civil War Maynard carbine. I have dug them, on rare occasions. Good find! Geologyjohn

Thanks for the bullet ID John , it is .50 caliber , is that right ?

Good hunt, always wanted to hunt in that area, but never got too. A lot of history there as the troops were moving towards Atlanta.

Great find. There are a lot more people hunting in the Chattanooga then what I thought. I'm slighty jealous. :icon_thumleft:

nice finds Dave. Wish I could get away more often, I'd come down and visit for awile.....MM

If Gunrunner is up for it , I plan on a Fri. - Sat. hunt down there , start my new job on Monday .
