Hello Friends!

I hit a permission for an hour or so today (my sisters new place) and came up with my first cool find. Very first plug I dug, sitting in the bottom of the whole was a small pocket knife. Written on the side are the words "Duluth School Police 1986". I did a little research when I got home and it sounds like these were given out as school awards, often to crossing guards. This is the first thing they I have found that wasn't nails, glad, or junk iron. I was pretty pumped up. Searched awhile longer and found the usual nails and what not, but I did walk away with my first dug wheat penny, and a small metal hook. The hook still had a bit of a price tag on it, but I'll take treasure where I can get it.

Question for all you veteran diggers out there. Would you try to clean the little knife up, or would you leave it as is?

Nice finds and research, congrats! :occasion14:

That is a very cool knife! If it were mine, I would get some Evapo-Rust and put a small bowl in the microwave to make it good and warm, and soak the knife in it for a few hours. Then rinse it off and give it a good coat of wax.

Don't know about the knife, the ones I have found have been so corroded that they were pretty much one big chunk of rust. Congrats on the first wheatie!
