That's a BIG ol' speckled nickle ya got there!

Some of the coin cleaning folks will be by shortly to assist with the clean up to find the date I'm sure.

What were the details of you finding it? Nothing specific, but how deep, etc...

Good find, the buffalo's are cool!

Well I live in a house built in 1920, but the area I live in is very historic. It was inc. in 1871. The coin was only 6" down. It was found in my backyard, were I find most of my stuff. I stay at home with the kiddo so during her naps I hunt in the yard :)

Not much to lose in cleaning it. Soak it overnight in Worcheshire sauce and it will be back to nickle color. Depending on how worn the date is, it still may not be visible.

First of all, Welcome to TNET. Secondly, congrats on your first Buffalo. I have found 3 this past week. I took a wooden skewer and rubbed the date area pretty briskly. I was able to find the dates of 2 of them. The one I found Sunday was beyond help. It is common, at least for me to find dateless Buffs. The dates seamed to have worn off over the years on many I have seen.
